What do you do? What are you doing?

Week 3rd February

  • We finished talking about sports by making question cards so as to play a sports trivia.

These were some of your questions:

·         What do you use to do “Muay Thai”?
·         What do you wear to go swimming?
·         Where do you play golf?
·         Do you use a ball to play hockey? If don’t, what do you use?
·         Mention three things you use or wear to do fencing.
·         Mention five sports that go with the verb “do”.

Players 1 & 5 don’t complain when you lose. I explained that “use” is for equipment and “wear”, is for clothes.

  • We talked about jobs.

·         I work in a hospital but I’m not a doctor.
·         She works in a school.
·        He sells things.
·         This person makes bridges.
·         She works in a newspaper.

Who are they?

Remember the difference between “What do you do?” And “What are you doing?”

·         What do you do? (= what’s your job?) I’m a lawyer.
·         What are you doing? I’m watching TV.
·         What does your mother do? She’s a housewife.
·         What’s she doing? She’s collecting my brother from school.
·         What does your father do? He’s a sales rep. (sells things).
·         What’s he doing? He’s listening to music in the living room.

This is your homework:
Write four sentences following this example. Don’t copy this sentence as one of them! Don’t use “play” more than once. Try to use different verbs.

He is a doctor. But today he isn’t working. He’s playing golf at the golf course.

  • We watched a video of a test interview. These are the questions they will ask you if you take the Trinity Exam.

  • Next Week we are going to write a letter to a pen friend from Ukraine.

                                                                                                                   Date
Dear (name of the person you are writing to),

Say your name. Where you live. How old you are. If you have brothers
  or sisters.

What year you are in at school. What your favourite subjects are. Which ones
   you don’t like.

  Your hobbies.
And don’t forget to ask them some questions about their families, brothers or
sisters. And what the town where they live is like.

End the letter in this way:

   Regards,
   Your name

And we are going to talk about food. I’ll tell you on Monday.
